Graduation speech second draft

AACT. This is a school that means many different things to each of us. Some of us hate it, others love it, but we are all here to graduate. Even if you think you won’t miss this place you are wrong. We, as a senior class, have seen many of the milestones which this school has gone through, we had to deal with them whether they were good or bad. These milestones have shaped us into the class we are today, and when we think back to our memories of these past four years we can think of all of the teachers that have left. Like Mrs. Valerie, when in doubt “Right Click”, Mrs. Lopetagui’s Biology and Anatomy and Physiology classes and when most of the Medical teachers left, but why? I am not saying I don’t like the new ones it is just odd. Another thing we all share is when someone asks where you go to school they either give you the look, and yes we all know what this look of confusion is. Then you explain to them whatever your interpretation of this school is and the person usually is like “oh that school” even when they still have no clue what it is still or they say so a smart person school. This school has given most of us a taste of something that we want to do in the future and if it hasn’t, it has shown you what you definitely do not want to be in the future. Look at what we have accomplished from just having that small interview and our essays that we had to write Eighth grade year. Even though this process was a more tedious process than getting into a “normal high school”, it was worth it. This experience has given us many connections with people throughout the community. Since we had made the step forward and gave this high school a try we have the knowledge needed to accomplish many different new and exciting things.
Second draft and I am changing more of it as well.

Lastly I would like to congratulate you all on making this far and say good luck with whatever you are going to do next.
This is my first try at my speech and I am changing it now.

The Importance of being Earnest Essay

In his play, “The important of being Ernest” Oscar Wilde uses irony, hyperbole and understatement to show a cynical and humorous outlook on the Victorian society. The first act gives this play a foundation to let the proceeding acts build on to finish the punch line at the end of the play.
In the first act Wilde implies this cynical theme by using both the verbal and dramatic irony of the character Ernest throughout the entire play, whether it be Jack or Algernon using this name. In this act Wilde also uses the emotions of the female characters to show an exaggeration of the joy and feelings that they’ve shown towards each other. This was shown in the quote “You’re quite perfect, Mrs. Fairfax,” that Jack exclaims towards his love interest, Gwendolyn. Even though this is exaggerated Wilde also put some understatements in this act as well. This is shown in the quote “I am a little anxious for Bunbury, that is all,“ this quote gives an understatement that he is not very anxious at all to see his “brother” Bunbury, but in fact he is happy just not to get out of this town and away from his aunt.
The second act possesses these figurative elements as well, though the irony carries over from act to act. This is because of the lie that both Algernon and Jack continue to up hold. The Hyperbole within the second act is given by Cecily when chatting with Algernon about all of the letters that “he” wrote to her. An understatement that Wilde puts into this act is the understatement of how much Cecily loves Ernest.
The third Act is the concluding act and holds the ironic punch-line that Jack is actually named Ernest. This gives the play a good cohesive ending that gives the reader or audience a good life.

The play as a whole uses all of this language to show how the Victorian Society specifically how picky and conceded they can be when a name is just on the line. Even though the girls found out that their lovers had different names than Ernest they had not accepted them until the end. Thus proving how superficial people of this time period could be.

Poem essay

This is an essay where we had to describe the emotions and perspectives in the speakers language.
In her poem, Up Hill, Christina Rossetti uses many literary devices to display her feelings and perspectives throughout the poem. This is useful to figuring out what the meaning of the work as a whole is.
In the first stanza Rossetti uses the question in the first line “Does the road wind up-hill all the way?” this sets up a scene of a hill which the whole poem reflects on. Rossetti’s feelings in this stanza show that she is willing to take this road as long as it goes. This stanza also show the beginning of a longer effect of this road which is the way of the mourning of an old friend.
The second stanza gives the audience a perspective of a part that is farther down the road. Trying to find a resting place shows that the speaker is getting exhausted and needs a place to rest, and become a new for the new days to come.  Rossetti uses personification of a “slow dark night” to show how the speaker is tired at the end of all of this traveling. After spotting an inn within the darkness the speaker proceeds towards it.
Stanza three gives the perspective of right outside the inn begging the question of meeting new people within this inn “Shall I meet other wayfarers at night?” With the use of word wayfarers the speaker sets the image that these are wanderers or vagabonds that just come and go.  The use of the slogan “They will not keep you standing at that door.” the speaker plants the image of a very successful business. This also gives the feeling of warmth and homeliness to this inn full of vagabonds.

This fourth stanza uses some figurative language to show the ending of a life by finally getting into the inn at the end of the road and laying down for a final rest. Even though this figurative language is used the literal perspective of the inn is simplistic and showing a sense of home.

Break and coming Back

The past few weeks I have been on a much needed break from school. During this break I had gotten a lot of things accomplished that needed to be done. These things include organizing and getting ready for the brand new semester as well as sleeping in and going on a trip to Pasadena, California to work on floats that were in the Rose bowl Parade. This had also helped my attitude towards school change also it had given me a new perspective on being a senior. Right when we got back I had gotten homework from most of my teachers. I know that it stinks, Though I think it was a needed slap in the face that would get me back into the groove of school. I have also learned that I enjoy hearing poetry from what we have been doing in my AP English class. This had also helped me through the proceeding weeks to get back into school because if we just started out reading dense texts I do not know how I would feel about that. This is my first blog of the new year and I will try to be more on top of these things. Bye readers.

scholarship essay rough draft

Scholarship essay

Many people do not know what they are going to do or where they are going to go in the future, but I know exactly how I would like to spend my future. As a long term goal I will study to become an Emergency Department Nurse. I see myself here because I enjoy medicine and saving people’s lives. To achieve this ultimate goal I will start small as a senior I am working towards getting my EMT Basic certification which I can then use to work at the local ambulance company, REMSA, or work as a patient transporter in RENOWN. After I begin working I am planning on going to the University of Nevada Reno, UNR. This is where I will further my education to becoming a Registered Nurse. The Nursing program at UNR is very well built for my goals. After working at either of these jobs I will try to network with the higher up people in these jobs which will better my career as I get further down that path. As a minor in College I will choose education. This is because if I ever lose my job I need a backup plan I have always found teachers to be fun and loving towards their students so I think that would be a very nice way to spend my time as well.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein by Mary Shelly is the book we are now reading in English class. This book thus far is pretty good. My favorite part is sun Victor, the stranger is on the ice cap all by himself and the people on the ship are yelling at him to come aboard so that he does not die in the attic on an ice cap. This part of the book bus far is my favorite because of how Shelly portrays everything that is going on with just a couple of letters. I know that the book is in the epistolary format which is writing with a set of letters news articles and journals. Since this is my first time ever reading an epistolary I find it very interesting to think in a new way to read this book. I also liked this part because I found it funny that there would be some guy on an ice cap floating around near the North Pole just chilling and as calm as can be. This part also set up the first chapter of the book because it is a flash back of Victor's early days, and that is what I think of Frankenstein thus far.
